WattCut is currently a team of two — with two very different philosophies on shaving legs.
Christian is firmly Team Shaved. Pauli refuses, claiming he might lose valuable cuddles. Air resistance has never been a convincing argument for him.
Fortunately, WattCut is about more than leg hair.
From triathlon to the virtual wind tunnel
Christian found road cycling through triathlon. Since he works with simulations professionally, putting himself into a virtual wind tunnel felt like the obvious thing to do.
Could he ride faster without producing more power?
There are countless ways to change a position on the bike. You can go lower, narrower, longer or shorter. Move the hands, adjust the elbows, change the saddle or tilt the head.
But understanding which changes actually make a difference is surprisingly difficult. A position may look fast, feel fast or simply feel uncomfortable — without telling you how much aerodynamic drag it really creates.
So Christian started experimenting. He tested different riding positions in a virtual wind tunnel, compared their aerodynamic performance, and translated the results into changes he could use on the bike.
The result: without increasing his FTP, he reduced his bike split in an Olympic-distance triathlon by several minutes while riding at a similar power output.
That experiment became WattCut
WattCut was created to make this kind of analysis available to more cyclists and triathletes.
From a small set of photos we build a personal digital model of the rider and compare different positions in the virtual wind tunnel. The results show how each position changes aerodynamic drag — and what that difference is worth in watts at real riding speeds.
No guessing based on appearances.
No generic aero position that is supposed to work for everyone.
Just a clear comparison of the positions you can actually ride.
Because the fastest position is not necessarily the lowest or the most extreme one. It is the position that reduces drag, works with your body, and can be maintained when it matters.
Where it honestly stands
WattCut is in beta. It is not a finished, fully automated product, and this page is not going to pretend otherwise. Simulations are computational rather than physical, parts of an analysis may be completed by hand, and a place on the beta list does not guarantee an invitation.
What is real: the method works, it has been used on a real bike with a real result, and the pricing is what it says it is. What is not yet real: a queue of finished reports and a track record to point at. Joining the list early is how you get in before either exists — and it costs nothing.
